Dies ist kein Jeep Wrangler, auch wenn es so aussehen mag. Dies ist tatsächlich der neue 2021 Mahindra Thar - aber keine Sorge, die indische Firma hat Jeep nicht völlig abgezockt oder kopiert (wie sie es mit dem Roxor versucht hat).

Mahindra besitzt tatsächlich die Rechte an dem früheren CJ Jeep Wrangler, der von 1996 bis 2006 produziert wurde. Der neue Thar ist also völlig legal - und offenbar ziemlich robust.

Der Mahindra Thar wird von zwei Motorvarianten angetrieben: entweder von einem 2,0-Liter-Benzin- oder einem 2,2-Liter-Dieselmotor. Der Ottomotor leistet 152 PS (112 Kilowatt), während der Diesel es auf 132 PS (97 Kilowatt) bringt. Bei beiden Aggregaten hat man die Wahl zwischen einem Sechsgang-Schaltgetriebe und einer Sechsgang-Automatik.

Und ja, der Thar ist ein richtiger Geländewagen. Er verfügt über einen zuschaltbaren Allradantrieb mit Verteilergetriebe plus Untersetzung und bietet solide Winkel. Der 41,8-Grad-Böschungswinkel vorne beim Thar ist besser als der seines nächsten Konkurrenten, des Suzuki Jimny (37,0 Grad), und seine Wattiefe sind mit 66 Zentimeter fast doppelt so hoch wie die des Suzuki.

Anders als der Jeep Wrangler, auf dem er basiert, ist Mahindras Geländewagen jedoch nur als Zweitürer erhältlich. Er bietet jedoch Hard- und Softtop-Konfigurationen sowie Sitzplätze für bis zu vier oder sechs Passagiere, je nachdem, wie Sie ihn spezifizieren. Bei der letzteren Option gibt es zwei zusätzliche Klappsitze im Fond.

Im Inneren des Thar befindet sich ein 7,0-Zoll-Touchscreen mit Apple CarPlay, Android Auto und Bluetooth-Konnektivität. Dieser Bildschirm verfügt außerdem über einen digitalen Kompass, eine Anzeige des Neigungs- und Rollwinkels sowie des Radwinkels und bietet über die Blue Sense App der Marke sogar Smartwatch- und Smartphone-Konnektivität. Und keine Sorge, der Bildschirm ist "spritzwassergeschützt", so dass er auch unterwegs etwas Wasser widerstehen kann.

Kein Wort darüber, wie viel der Mahindra Thar kosten soll, wenn es auf Märkten wie Indien verkauft wird. Fest steht definitiv: Nach Europa wird er offiziell nicht kommen.
