Nostalgie pur: Der neue Caterham Super Seven 1600 lässt sich vom Stil der 1970er-Jahre inspirieren, aber mit der Leistung und Zuverlässigkeit moderner Technik. Die Preise für das Modell beginnen bei 36.995 Euro vor Steuern, mit Mehrwertsteuer sind es ziemlich genau 44.000 Euro. Das britische Unternehmen bietet zudem viele Extras an, darunter LED-Scheinwerfer oder ein Sperrdifferenzial.
Der Super Seven 1600 verwendet einen Ford Sigma-Vierzylinder mit 1,6 Liter Hubraum und 137 Pferdestärken (101 Kilowatt). Obwohl eine moderne Einspritzung zum Zuge kommt, werden optisch im Motorraum klassische Weber-Vergaser imitiert.
Noch mehr puristische Roadster:
Um dem Äußeren einen klassischen Look zu verleihen, passt Caterham seine ausgestellten Kotflügel an, die von unterhalb der Windschutzscheibe bis zu den Rädern reichen. Auf Wunsch spannen sie sich aber nur über die Räder. Apropos Räder: Das Fahrzeug fährt auf 14-Zöllern im Minilite-Stil, die in Aluminium, Gold oder in Wagenfarbe erhältlich sind. Caterham bietet das Modell in vintage-inspirierten Farben wie British Racing Green, Caribbean Blue, Toscany Red, Saxony Grey, Serengeti Orange, Bordeaux Red und Oxford White an. Als Option können Käufer das größere Chassis ordern, das für etwas mehr Innenraum sorgt, den Gepäckraum vergrößert und einen größeren Kraftstofftank hinzufügt.
Innen ist der Super Seven 1600 mit einem Lenkrad mit Holzkranz und serienmäßiger Lederpolsterung ausgestattet. Eine Heizung gehört zu den Optionen, aber sie müsste an einem kühlen Tag wegen des offenen Cockpits des Autos hart arbeiten.
Caterham hat schon früher bei Sondermodellen auf die Vergangenheit des Seven zurückgeblickt. Im Jahr 2016 ließ sich der Seven Sprint von den Modellen aus den 1960er-Jahren inspirieren. Im Jahr 2017 zollte der Seven SuperSprint dem ursprünglichen Lotus Seven von 1957 Tribut. Caterham kaufte 1973 die Rechte an dem Modell von Lotus und hält das Modell seitdem am Leben.

Caterham Cars has launched its latest retro-inspired model – the Super Seven 1600 – after the enormous success of previous heritage cars.
With prices starting at £33,495, or £325.99 a month for 48 months, for a car in component form, the 135bhp, five-speed Super Seven 1600 fits perfectly into Caterham’s existing heritage line of products as a permanent addition, alongside the wildly popular limited-edition Sprint and Super Sprint models launched in 2016 and 2017 respectively.
Inspired by the craftsmanship of the original Super Seven and the early cars created under the historic Caterham badge, the new Super Seven features a raft of retro details and styling cues.
These include the classic flared front wings, retro-inspired 14” alloy wheels, a spare wheel and carrier harking back to the touring Sevens of old, and a choice of Seven heritage paint finishes.
In the interior, the retro experience continues, with a timelessly elegant wooden-rimmed steering wheel and classically tailored leather upholstery.
Designed to evoke the glamour, colour and joy of motoring in the 1970s, with none of the drawbacks of ‘70s technology, the new-for-2020 car is the first Super Seven to be offered in the wider, more comfortable large chassis (SV), as well as the standard version (S3).
And it’s not just the car’s looks that hark back to the ‘70s – the Super Seven 1600 includes DCOE throttle body injection, found on any self-respecting rally car of the era and producing a distinctive growl, reminiscent of the twin ‘40s of the period.
